Update on Power Development Planning VIII

On September 23, 2020, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) submitted a report 5709/TTr-BCT on approving the National Power Development Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.

The MOIT proposes to approve the PDP8 with a power source structure by 2030 with a total power capacity of about 121,495 – 146,430 MW (excluding rooftop solar power and cogeneration sources). In which, renewable energy other than hydroelectricity (wind power, solar power, biomass power…) accounts for 18.67-23.46% in the power source structure.

Large capacity solar power is proposed to continue to implement 2,360.2 MW to avoid legal risks, avoid lawsuits and compensate investors as detailed in the report.

The Government will hold a meeting on September 28, 2022 and make an official conclusion.
